Triathamom 2013

Triathamom
300 meter swim, 12 mile bike ride, and 5k run

Tagged and ready for a good night's rest... NOT!
Who sleeps before a race? Not me!

Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed... and ready for the race to begin!

In the water at 7:49:07 and finished the race in 1 hour 52 minutes.

There's a story behind this swim cap... and it makes me emotional to even write about it. About one week before my race, I was visiting my grandfather. He knew my race was coming up and he offered me my deceased grandmother's swim cap. I immediately put it on and knew I'd wear it in her honor. I'd had the flu three straight days before the race and a migraine set in the morning of. As I swam, exhausted and weak, I thought of her. I know she gave me strength... not just for the swim, but for the entire race.

Crawl to side stroke... any way to finish the swim!

Over 400 ladies lined the pool and cheered each other on. So inspirational!

Not a pretty sight climbing out of the pool, but I got out!

Prepping for the bike ride... my favorite part.

Let's get this party started!
At about mile 4, one of our friends was hit by a car while on her bike. After the medical team examined her, she got right back on her bike and passed us at mile 10. She's superhuman!

Back to the transition area and ready for the run (and walk).

Jello legs from biking 12 miles... but at least I'm running!

Almost to the finish. Thank goodness Tanja kept pushing me!

A sprint to the finish!

Oh yeah, baby!

We did it! Thanks, Tanja, for being my partner in crime!

I'm so sweaty... thus Bre doesn't want to give me a real hug quite yet. Ha-ha!

Tanja, Leyla and me

Oh, I'm rockin' it Whit!

I saw the signs... and the tears started flowing.

The camera man and cheerleader... and almost my life preserver in the pool.

The family that tat's together, stays together.
Wait... I don't think that's how that saying goes!
